We're Doubling Down

This year, Black Chair turns 8 years old. 8 years is not a long time, but it's an eternity in our world of technology and the business processes that go along with it.

8 years ago, Facebook and Youtube were in their formative years. Smart phones were new, and far from ubiquitous; the App Store had only opened a year before. Instagram didn't exist yet, and Snapchat definitely did not.

We've interacted with a lot of businesses in those 8 years, and we've seen almost all of them struggle with one age-old challenge: how to consistently, predictably generate new business. In an age where the internet was still becoming relevant for business, where people still listened to the radio and still received mail by post, our advice on this subject varied widely, depending on the business at hand.

But we're no longer in that era. 86% of North Americans are online. 79% of those are on Facebook. Whether you divide by gender, age, education, income, or urban/rural location, there is no group of internet users that is not strongly represented (over 60%) on Facebook. 1

While that represents tremendous opportunity for businesses (we generated millions of dollars and double digit revenue growth for our clients last year through social media alone), it also represents a new challenge, because most businesses have no idea how to use social media to effectively generate new business. However, we do. That's why, starting today, Black Chair is doubling down on social media. Our existing clients will be unaffected, and our ongoing projects will continue, but new business will be centred around helping our clients sell more using social media, because we believe that's the highest ROI activity any of our clients can engage in.

We've already taken several big steps in support of this renewed focus. Last year, we secured a partnership with Hubspot, the leading inbound marketing software platform and an invaluable component of our social media marketing method. We are in the process of bringing on some key team members, and have secured a new office lease to house the expansion--we'll have more on all of that very soon. We're extremely excited by this evolution, and can't wait to share more of it with you.
